Part of the 30-Day Challenge, Day 2.

I had wanted to get into blogging for a while before I started this blog.  I love to write, and I love Web 2.0 and its ability to connect us with community.  So I started thinking about a blog name.  It’s harder than you might think!

I toyed with a lot of different blog name ideas before settling on one.  I first started with “Little Man of the House,” but that felt that I was too tied in to blogging as just another mom–albeit a mom in a 2-mom family–and not about other things I was passionate about.  I took a step back, and made a list of things I thought I wanted to cover in my blog.  It looked a bit like this:

  1. Motherhood and parenting
  2. Same-sex parenting specifically
  3. Education, in general
  4. Literacy and Children’s/YA Lit, specifically
  5. Librarianship
  6. Working mom stuff
  7. LGBT issues and marriage equality

So far, my blog has hit on some of these topics, not all of them (yet) and some more than others.  But this list is representative of where I want it to go.

So with that in mind, I started thinking about a blog name that fit.  Since there are lots of mommy blogs out there, and lots of librarian blogs as well, I found that a lot of the names I came up with were taken.  “Em in the Library” (also my twitter handle and email address) had a nice ring to it, but motherhood is central to my perspective–parenting from the point of view of an educator, or maybe that’s vice versa–so I really wanted to include that somehow.  “Mombrarian” was taken–though that blog itself was barren when I checked, so if you’re done with it, Mombrarian, would you mind giving it to me?

After that, Mombrarian morphed into Mama Librarian, and here we are.

Blogging away about parenting and education and literacy and life.  Join me for the ride, and enjoy!
